Good Morning

The Scripture Lessons and Lyrics Challenge No 4 at Triple the Scraps is Good Morning - Patter felt we needed something to wake us up and get us going! and shared a great song by Mandisa, listen to it here.  The lyrics are great and just what I needed to hear:

It's a good morning!
Wake up to a brand new day
This morning,
I'm stepping, stepping on my way
Good morning,
You give me strength,
You give me just what I need
And I can feel the hope that's rising in me.
It's a good morning

God really is our refuge and strength.  He gives us just what we need when we need it.  His mercies and love are new every morning and bring us hope for each new day.

Here is my page:

Its a 6 x 12 format so this is how it will appear:

Here's a close up of the lyrics:

And a close up of the scripture I chose:

Here are the daisies with button centres.  My daugher gave me the heart buttons, aren't they cute:

This is a great song and got me skipping around.  It helped pick me up when I was down.  I hope you too will have strength and hope rising for each new - and good - morning.

Heart = Love

Over at Creative Every Day the theme for February is Heart.  I love hearts, I love adding hearts to my cards, art journal pages, etc.  I suppose I love using hearts because it makes me think of love and love has to be the most powerful force for good in the world.  If only we could all love in a selfless way as God intended the world would not be the mess it is today!  Love - giving love -  is what its all about and this is why I love the bit in the bible where it says:

Make love your aim
1 Cor 14:1

I looked this up in different translations and added them to my page:

These were leftoever hearts from another project.  I tore some into pieces and cut others out and stuck them all down randomly.  Some I gessoed over.

Then I added stamping - Hero Arts Friend Definition, Kaisercraft Sheet Music and this lovely swirl and heart-petalled flower again from Hero Arts.

I was in a hurry doing this page so scribbled my title and words down - I quite like the way LOVE has come out.

I love all these different ways of saying that love just has to be our highest priority.

Lets give a little (or maybe lots of !) love today :)

Faith or Despair but not both

The quote I usde in my page today was in the Triple the Scraps challenge Scripture Lessons and Lyrics lesson 3 and its just so true.  If you have a heart full of faith, there won't be room for despair.

I really like how this page turned out.  I wanted to do a green and pink page so brushed acrylic paint around the page but then I scraped the paint with a credit card and got a really fun texture.

I wanted a bit of shimmer so sprayed Cosmic Shimmer Meadow Lush and Rose Pink, but the Rose Pink bottle had a hole in it and I got these ink splats - real accidental ink splats :)

I added an Indigo Blue Script Stamp in black and a Hero Arts circles border in green, plus different size bottle caps in white acrylic.

So there's lots of layers of different type circles:

I typed out faith lots of times, printed and then cut out the hearts:

and outlined in charcoal:

I really liked the different effects of the paint scrapes and splats and spray:

Next time I start worrying about something, I will remind myself of this quote - I will not worry but trust God!

Remember and have joy

Today I'm sharing the latest page in my joy journal (joy being my one word for 2014).  I'm working my way through a booklet on joy.  Its an Every Day With Jesus by Selwyn Hughes and I've already learnt a lot about joy.  This page is on remembering the great things God has done for us.  When we remember, we can't help but have joy.

I was in the mood for purple for this page - don't ask me why :)  Its not a colour I use much so I don't have a purple acrylic.  I splodged some red and blue acrylic on the page and brushed it around so I got different shades from red through purple to blue.  It was a bit darker than I wanted so I sprayed some Cosmic Shimmer Sunlight Mist and I love the effect.  I used two stamps only, Hero Arts Leaf Flourish and Kaisercraft Sheet Music:

I just love this effect, sort of celestial!

I added some home made texture paste (recipe below) through a stencil, The Crafters Workshop Fleur de Lis and added the title:

and what Selwyn Hughes had to say about remembering:

The home made texture paste is simple to make.  Just mix 1 part white acrylic paint, 1 part talc and 1/2 part pva glue and mix thoroughly.  It keeps well in an air tight container like a jam jar or plastic tub.  I found this on you tube and you can see it here

I love this texture paste, so easy to make:

Of course the idea is not to learn all about joy but also to have and to keep joy no matter what happens :)

Have a joy filled day.

Always

Whenever I go through a difficult time, whether personally or with worry for a family member, etc the first thing I do is turn to God and ask for His help - True or False?  I would like to say TRUE.... and I do turn to God and pray and ask for His help, but do I stop worrying?  No, not always.

The Scripture Lessons and Lyrics Challenge no 3 (see it here) is entitled Always and its about knowing God as our refuge and strength ALWAYS.  The song this time is by Kristian Stanfill.  Its a wonderful song with great words.  You can listen to it here..

This song really spoke to me:
"My foes are many, they rise against me
But I will hold my ground!
I will not fear the war, I will not fear thte storm
My help is on the way, my help is on the way

Oh, my God, He will not delay
My refuge and strength always
I will not fear, His promise is true
My God will come through always
Always

Do I believe those words?  Yes, yes, YES!!!  God has proved it to me so many times - He is always there to help, to strengthen, to get us through bad times.  I just want to be able to get to the place where I will never fear or worry, but always trust and hold my ground!  - its a work in progress :)

Here is my double page.  Again I wanted to include most of the song and several scriptures:

I'm doing a 6 x 12 book so this is how is will look:

Here are the pages individually:

And a close up of the words of the song:

and these wonderful wonderful scriptures.

God wants us to call on Him for help - we just need to do it.....and then wait and not worry!

Trash!

I was really irritable the other day and I couldn't work out why. Dominic, my husband, said it was because we had a very late night when our son, Patrick, came home and we played a very long game of Scrabble - its a bit of a tradition.  Patrick usually wins but this time, amazingly I just beat him!!!  It was a great game :)

Anyway, the late night wasn't the reason for my irritability.  When I was having my prayer time I realised that I'd been eating very unhealthily.  I don't know why, because ususally I eat pretty sensibly.  But I'd been eating a lot of sweet things that really don't agree with me.  I had a blinding revelation that by eating all this unhealthy stuff I was treating my body like trash.  The Lord showed me this, I think, and TRASH was the word that came to me :(

This is what I did in my art journal:

This page began with the bright orange down the middle, some left over paint I had scraped there.  I dug out some really old Pebeo volume paints I'd forgotten I had and covered the rest of the page.  I really like the texture:

I added stamping into the volume paint and my home made texture paste through a stencil:

I stamped the title:

God also showed me that when I don't look after my body by eating things I shouldn't and not doing the things I should like exercise, I'm trashing not just my body but the gift of life He has given me. This was a really sobering thought.  How could I do this?  However, the outcome has been good because its made me eat healthily again.  God gives us the grace we need to do things but we do need to be determined ourselves.

Love Heart

I was asked to make a birthday card for a friend at church and since it will be signed by lots of people it had to be a big card.  I decided to do a large patchwork heart and include the well known Love is patient, etc from 1 Cor 13.  This is not just because the theme at the moment everywhere is hearts and love (Feb 14 coming up soon!) but because my friend has been really lovely and supportive to me.

I love doing paper patchwork and sewing on my cards.  Sewing gives such a lovely soft effect:

The font is Cupid de Locke which I chose obviously because of all the little hearts.

I added some flowers with button centres:

I really enjoyed making this card and I hope it will bless her.

Joy - a Smile in the Heart

This is a page in my JOY journal (joy being my one word for 2014 and I've posted about why I've chosen this word and shared a canvas I did on joy here

I read this somewhere - with joy the smile doesn't just stay on the lips but is in the heart - and thought that is so true.  Joy isn't just feeling happy and smiling but springs up from deep within - definitely a smile in the heart!

I made the heart to open, so I could include some more journaling plus my prayer to the Lord on this:

For this page I scraped acrylic all over the page then used a lighter tone through a Prima flowery mask:

Then I stamped and doodled.  I like that flower heart, its by Hero Arts.

And lastly I scraped texture paste through a stencil:

Of course when you do a page on joy, joy can't help but well up inside :)

I hope you have a joy-filled day.
